Along with the updated Mac Pro supercomputer at WWDC
2019, Apple introduced the Pro Display XDR monitor, which corresponds to a
powerful computer both in terms of capabilities and cost. The most budget
equipment will cost $ 5000, and for the top-end specification with stand and
mount you will have to pay $ 7200.
Design Apple Pro Display XDR
Apple Pro Display XDR looks very distinctive, and
every tech-savvy visitor to your office, home or office will immediately
recognize an apple novelty in it. At the same time, the monitor cannot boast
either framelessness (there are 9-mm "borders" around the perimeter
of the front panel), or harmony, because the 27-mm case thickness for 2019 is a
lot. The width of the monitor is 71.8 cm, the height is 41.2 cm (without
stand), the weight is almost 7.5 kg.
Special attention is paid to the rear panel, which is
almost half composed of air. Moreover, this is not just a beautiful pattern,
but a complex engineering solution that combines the ventilation holes of the
drive and discharge type (cold air in, hot air out).
Thanks to this, the Pro Display XDR can work an
indefinite amount of time at a peak brightness of 1600 nits, which is a lot.
The monitor case itself is, of course, made of
aluminum, on the rear panel there are four USB Type-C connectors, one of which
has Thunderbolt 3 support.
Apple Pro Display XDR performance
Apple Pro Display XDR, aka Retina 6K Display, its
matrix resolution is 6016 × 3384 pixels, which with a 32-inch diagonal gives an
image quality of about 218 dpi - very decent for monitors of this size.
The
contrast is 1,000,000: 1, the default brightness is 1,000 nits, the peak
brightness is 1,600 nits, the color depth is 10 bits, and the operating
frequency is up to 60 Hz. The monitor can operate in HDR (High Dynamic Range)
mode and, as the name implies, in XDR (Extreme Dynamic Range), which means the
widest dynamic range is available.
According to the description on the company's website,
such characteristics, coupled with advanced software technologies, allow
professionals to achieve the most accurate display of any details and colors,
and amateurs to get the highest quality image when performing any tasks (films,
games, videos, etc.).
Smart Features Apple Pro Display XDR
Apple Pro Display XDR not only shows the image, but
builds it on the basis of data from a number of algorithms and technologies, of
which three most important should be distinguished:
1. Each of the 576 LEDs of each monitor was calibrated
so that a special algorithm subsequently separately modulated it to build the
perfect image;
2. On the front and rear panels there are light
sensors that transmit information for processing with True Tone technology,
which allows you to adjust the image in accordance with the lighting conditions
of the room;
3. Apple Pro Display XDR automatically determines the
type of content displayed on the screen (HDR, HD or SD video, photos, web browsing,
etc.), and then selects the optimal configuration for it. Experienced users
also have the ability to create their own presets for specific tasks.
Apple Pro Display XDR Accessories
In the kit for the Apple Pro Display XDR, it is
recommended to purchase the Pro Stand, which stands as a pretty decent
mid-budget segment monitor. It will allow you to change the screen angle and
height (by 60 mm in each direction) with a flick of the wrist, as well as turn
the Pro Display XDR into portrait orientation.
The length of the base of the Pro Stand is the total
“depth” of the monitor (in fact, the space occupied on the table) and is 23.6
mm, the height of the monitor with the stand is 80.6 cm.
In addition, there is a budget solution for mounting a
monitor called VESA.
Apple Pro Display XDR pricing and release date
Naturally, the Apple Pro Display XDR is designed
exclusively for professionals, as well as lovers of Apple's high-income
products. The cost of the basic version with ordinary (standard) glass will be
$ 4999, and for glass nano-texture will have to pay $ 1000 more. In addition,
another $ 1,000 is separately requested for the Pro Stand and $ 200 for the
VESA mount.
Pre-orders for the Apple Pro Display XDR will start in
September 2019, and the first deliveries will begin in about a month.
